I never realized how easy we had it food-wise with Brooke until we had picky-eater toddler, Brie.  Brooke seemed to love everything and it showed.  She went from a tiny preemie to being a healthy weight toddler very quickly.  With Brie it is almost going the opposite way and I think she would probably eat bananas (or nana nana nanas, yes, you have to say it three times) for every meal if we let her.  We went from parents who could serve anything to ones that have to hide healthy fats and ingredients in food so our kitchen floor doesn’t look like an almost-war zone after each meal.

While meal preparation has become a big part of it, as we refuse to make two different dinners every night (for lack of time, energy and money) reading books like I Don’t Like Cheese helps.  See, I Don’t Like Cheese is about a mouse named Mike who does not like cheese.  Or he thinks he doesn’t like cheese.  You mean tacos and pizza have cheese in them?  Say it isn’t so!  As Mike’s human friend feeds him lots of tasty treats with hidden cheese he learns that even fussy eaters can be tempted to try new foods and flavors that you might even develop a palate for all kinds of yummy goodness.  Interestingly, this book was written by an 11 year old (who is now 12 and planning a sequel!) and her delicious adventure translates well to our now-picky eater.
