A Smarter Way to Play
I am all for allowing my kiddos to use technology when it comes to their education. I was in second grade when my parents brought home our first home computer and the educational games I used helped me learn how to type, create music and even learn some early computer programming skills. My oldest daughter is allowed a few hours each week to play on our tablet to play educational apps and two of the apps we love is by a company called Tiggly.
Tiggly has several app programs that work on iPad, Kindle Fire HD, and Android tablets to help children learn math, words and shapes. Each learning system comes with toys to assist the child in their learning. For example, for Tiggly Math children get traditional Cuisenaire rods (the same used in Montessori school) to help the child learn how to count. In Tiggly Words, your child can spell wacky words and solve silly problems with letters as they become more familiar with the fundamentals of language, learning long & short vowels, phonics, nouns & verbs, and word building. The apps are all child friendly and the associated toys work by simply touching the screen with the toys in real-time. This is a great way to combine physical and digital play and creates a wonderful interactive learning environment. The apps come in 10 different languages and are geared for children ages 3-8. Yes, these apps have engaged my child and she has learned from them. Awesome!
