My husband can take as long – or sometimes even longer – to get ready than me. He likes to look his best and it is something I simultaneously admire and find amusing. I would never complain about his use and collection of colognes, deodorants, soaps and shaving lotions because I do appreciate that he likes to smell nice. I may even go so far as to say I consider myself lucky to be able to get a whiff of my significant other and it is always a pleasant odor like some sort of a combination of spicy amber and musk.
It was a huge hit when I got Bob a gift certificate a few years ago for shaving supplies, soaps and colognes for a local business in Austin where he learned about the old French tradition of storytelling with the art of perfumery. I have been trying to top myself on his next gift to get him something as thoughtful and as useful. I find that it is not the price of the gift that makes a difference, it is the amount of time and effort you put in to coordinating a gift to that person’s interests. When you have spent more than half your life with someone, it tends to be a lot easier to know what they like but some surprises are always good to add in to the mix.
