I may be slightly tainted about a father’s contribution to raising children from my own experience. My dad was the breadwinner. We knew to keep quiet and be good when he got off work. We never bothered him when he read the paper each night. And, heaven forbid, if mom used the words, “I’m going to tell your dad….” it immediately followed by us kids acting like angels with the hope no one would BOTHER DAD. It wasn’t until Bob and I had kids of our own when I realized parenting HAS to be a two way street. This whole, children is a woman’s job, flew out the window long before my parents had kids, but the stigma continues to wear thin. I’m convinced by the time our kids decide to have children that the glass ceiling will have long been shattered and forgotten but until now – let’s CELEBRATE the fathers who take fatherhood SERIOUSLY and not just the duty of bringing in paychecks – like the MAJORITY of women do these days. It’s time to change that mindset before women go off the rails from lack of sleep and exhaustion, and fellas, it starts with you!

Learning games and telling tall tales is just the tip of the iceberg in this beautifully written guidebook for dads who need a little coaxing in child appropriate jokes and fun. READING to your kids about the classics to playing telephone, there is no shortage of fun things you can teach and learn with your child. I adore all of the songs to learn to even making your very own crayons. Why should mothers have all the fun? Sure, raising kids is hard work, but it doesn’t have to be alone. Let’s begin by writing our own manuals and figuring out how to parent with a TWO parent (or MORE!) household. Why not start with this very book.
