Top Educational Books for Young Readers of All Abilities
I’m sure you have heard the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” If only that were true! Words can hurt especially if someone says something mean to you in a group of people. In the new children’s book, Stick and Stone, these two unlikely friends come together after Pinecone bullies Stone. Stick ‘stuck’ up for Stone and a new friendship blossomed. The book, with fun illustrations and few words that are perfect for small children, brings home the idea that true friends look out for each other and take care of their friendship. Later in the book, Stone helps Stick when he gets into a muddy situation which cements their relationship even more. The pair make a perfect 10.
The Stick and Stone book is an especially important read for kids when research data shows that children who have at least one good friend are more likely to make positive and healthful decisions in their lives. Making and keeping good friends, those that take care of their friendship and each other, is an important life skill for everyone and Stick and Stone delightfully bring that message home. I thought this book presented a wonderful opportunity to talk to my oldest daughter about what makes a good friend and will share a link below that discuss in depth what it means to be a true friend. The site also has related topics like knowing good friendship skills and knowing yourself. Remember, popularity and a good friendship are two different things! Be a good friend.
