Brooke is learning to read!  She is great at spotting sight words and trying to sound out new words so we are reading a lot of books for beginning readers that has lots of repetition.  HarperCollins Children’s books have introduced a brand new series called “A Pig in a Wig Book’ that has simple rhyming text (think Dr. Seuss) and a phonics component that is perfect for new readers.  The illustrations are hilarious and this first book is filled with wacky animal characters doing silly things while going on a boat ride.  There are lots of lines that repeat, especially, “What this story needs is a pig in a wig” which is perfect for Brooke.  We are having fun reading and look forward to pig’s next adventure in the series!
