Sunburn Alerts solely measure UVA/UVB to give you the most accurate indication of your exposure. (No temperature or time element!)
It’s almost SUMMERTIME! That means a lot of sun and heat here in Austin which comes with the risk of overexposure to the elements. There is a great new product to me that actually takes the guesswork out of the potential for your child to get a sunburn and it is very simple to use.
Here are the deets;
- Bands are disposable – One day use.
- Waterproof – Great for both the pool and the beach!
- Works with any SPF 15+.
- Wristbands are adjustable to fit any size wrist!
- Dispose of the band by placing it in a recycling bin as the bands material is safe to recycle.
How they work:
Step 1: Activation
Activate the band by exposing it outside to direct sunlight for about 5-10 seconds, until the band turns deep purple.
Apply Sunscreen SPF 15+ TO THE BAND and the rest of your body as you normally would (this includes waiting 20 minutes to allow sunscreen to absorb into your skin before going out in the sun.)
Step 3: Reminder(s) to Reapply
When the band begins to fade to a lavender color, that serves as your reminder(s) to reapply sunscreen (to both yourself and the band.)
When/If the band reaches a crème shade, you have reached your maximum recommended UVA/UVB exposure for one day and should seek shade or put on sun-protective clothing.
I was pretty shocked at how fast reapplication was needed as indicated by the wrist band as well as the timing of when to get out of the sun for the day. I could definitely see using this on a day where I know my family will be outside a lot for that peace of mind and I thought it was actually fun to use. It helped that Brooke liked having it on since she likes anything that looks like jewelry, too!
