For my friends who were serious about taking their music careers in SE Ohio (yeah, I know!) to the next level, Chicago was usually the next stop. As Frank Sinatra sang, “Chicago is my kind of town!” Now my hometown of Austin may be called the live music capital, but Chicago promised a ticket to musical greatness and, yes, even the public school teachers are impressing us with their sensational albums. Respectively, Matt Baron, a Chicago Public Schools teacher and his band, the Future Hits, has a bilingual treat for families that comes out on 5/5/15! Or Cinco de Mayo for those not in the know….
What’s a great way to retain and build knowledge? Through music, of course! Future Hits has taken this concept by storm and their sophomore album “Today is Forever/ Hoy es para siempre” has an impressive 24 tracks that began right in his classroom as (shhhh!) educational standards-aligned songs for students with associated activities for Spanish/English learning. This indie rock album has different speeds of music and their song has been compared to Yo La Tengo – yup! Many people have taken notice, and this album is partially funded by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, National Endowment for the Arts and a successful Kickstarter program. Impressive/ impresionante!
