A Coloring Book of Ancient Egypt
If you have been a long-time reader of my blog, you know that we pick a country each year for each girl as their birthday theme. This year, Brooke has the United States of America and Brie has Egypt. Since we have been doing this with our oldest for five years now, I’ve had time to discover what activities she enjoys the most that also help her learn about a new place. Things like music, foods, flags and coloring books about a country is a great way to talk to kids and have them be interested in the world around them. I have been pretty consistent with a particular publishing company’s coloring books each year until now. While looking for information on Ancient Egypt, I learned about Bellerophon Books from Santa Barbara, California and their fantastic line of coloring books for kids!
A Coloring Book of Ancient Egypt is a very detailed look at the Egyptians life including Egyptian mythology. The art work itself is adapted from ancient tomb art so it is a fun way to explain daily Egyptian life to kids. I love the historical aspect of a period from the earliest Egyptian king through 3,000 years to Cleopatra put in a way that kids can enjoy. Brooke is so detailed with her coloring now and these books present a wonderful challenge to her that she loves. At the moment, Brie just likes to color (aka scribble) in general although she does listen intently while I read and discuss Egypt with her older sister. The most fun we have is gearing up for their summer and fall birthdays so that by the time it rolls around, we all can feel like experts in our birthday country. By finding educational activities like this, it allows us to explore new and exciting territory while keeping it on an age-appropriate basis. I also laminate the colored pages for placemats for their parties, which makes it so much more special for all of us and adds to the authenticity of the day. Lots of fun!
