M is for Monster Preschool in a Box (Monthly Subscription)

Make learning fun and easy with toddler & preschool activities delivered to your door every month!

My oldest daughter is starting kindergarten in just a few months and while she also goes to preschool, we still like to supplement learning at home.  Otherwise, she’d probably be watching too much TV, running aimlessly around our house or playing on her Kindle Fire apps…..and there is really only so much Sago Mini farting planets a parent can take.

Farting Planet  Am I right, folks?!?

Brooke likes to have things to do.  She asks for things to do.  I only have so much time to prepare and when she says “I’m bored”, I like to say, well, here you go!…and know it is a great way for her to spend her time.

Plus kindergarten seems to be this big thing in the sky that I have yet to understand.  Is Brooke too ready?  Ready enough?  Here in Texas we have Charter schools.  Are they better/worse than any other schools?  Should we do private?  Even after you decide on the school, you still hope you made the best choice.  Brooke is lucky to have these options so I know I shouldn’t drive myself nuts thinking about the best thing for her when she already loves to learn!  She is learning to read and writing out words and loves to run and sing and dance.  She’s pretty amazing, so I have to trust she will do fine in any environment.  RIGHT?  Le sigh.  You know, I just don’t want to get this wrong.

As for my job as momma and teacher, I like to have a few planned activities every week so she isn’t just turning her brain off when she gets home.  To be honest, it helps me not to turn my brain off either.  While I had more time to keep up with this stuff before we had Brie and before Bob went back to work, I now seem to have no time to get anything done after keeping everyone alive, fed, clean and to bed each day.  So, while Brooke is prepping for kindergarten at preschool, she is also starting to prepare for it at home and I am so excited to tell you about M is for Monster, a monthly preschool subscription box.

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the monthly preschool box for M is for Monster.  The box we received was organized, had activities that made sense for Brooke’s age group and includes many of the same concepts Brooke is learning at preschool so it makes sense to her.  Plus, activities and instructions were laid out so well and so simple that I could honestly read the activity with my oldest and have her start doing it within a few minutes.  Pretty awesome.

So let me explain a little how M is for Monster works.  This box concept was created by a mom (Mandy Richardson of Ohio, who I am starting to believe is actually a robot) who was doing the same thing I was doing; looking for weekly learning activities for her kids, getting supplies and then dreading the idea of having time to do it all again the next week.  Who has time?  I don’t!  Luckily, this mom is SO good at pulling these learning activities together that she decided to started her own subscription box for other moms like me.  You know, the ones that would like someone like her to do all the initial work for us.  Ha!

Just look at the awesome April Monster Box!

Box Options

There are monthly options for home learning for either a.  Toddlers (around ages 2-3) or b. Preschoolers (around ages 4-5) and c. Kindergarteners for those who homeschool!  The preschool boxes focus on numbers 1 to 20, lower case letters (as opposed to uppercase letters for the Toddler boxes) and shapes and includes more complex skills and concepts for kids with longer attention spans. Plus, each box has such fun craft activities (like mixing paint colors to make the color brown for MUD) that your child will enjoy them.  I love, love, love how this mom outlines everything on her M is for  Monster blog, so it also makes it super easy for me to show you Brooke’s favorite week of activities for April, which was Week 2 (BUNNIES!!!!)

Bunny Week - April Toddler and Preschool ThemeWEEK 2: Bunny

1. I am a Bunny {early reading skills} Read the book by Richard Scarry Richard Scarry’s character of Nicholas the bunny, who celebrates the seasons as they go by

2. 5 Little Bunnies Finger play {counting} While using the finger puppets, say the rhyme.

3. Bunny Patterning {early math skills} Make patterns using the paper bunnies.

After Easter, Brooke has been loving all things bunny and Easter, so this was a great week for her.  This week focused on early reading with the book “I am a Bunny”, counting with bunny finger puppets while rhyming and using bunny patterns that focus on early math skills.  ALL of the needed supplies are included in the box and neatly wrapped up for each week.  It’s almost scary how easy it was to use this box and how much Brooke enjoyed it.  Is one mom really this organized?  Wowsa.

Pig  Great learning activities that worked with both our girls!

M is for Monster looks so professional that I feel like I get to play preschool teacher with no preparation.  I guess that is why I’m just reviewing M is for Monster and not making it myself.  Ha.  It makes the process of learning at home a no-brainer and Brooke is excited to see what her next activity will be.  I feel good about being able to supplement her learning and we get to enjoy the time together.  No more rushing to find new Montessori-esque activities online or at the store to get in the way of our only free time together.

Check out past M is for Monster boxes here for ideas and additional nudging that this is an awesome way to help your child prepare for a successful world of learning.  For buying boxes, subscriptions or even gift certificates check out the ‘Buy’ portion of the M is for Monster website HERE.  Good luck to all the parents out there prepping for kindergarten.  I hope this makes you feel a little better about the upcoming day you shuffle your child off to their first day of school!  I know I do….although it is getting so dangerously close to her first day of school!  Gulp.
