A Monthly Box of Healthy Full-Size Snacks Delivered to Your Door.
I can be a terrible snacker. I crave salty and sweet and I don’t always make the best choices. I know that I should eat healthy and that I have to be vigilant in order not to risk Type II diabetes, but when you just want that piece of chocolate or chips, sometimes it is just too easy to say, “Why not?” Ugh. I do know that I make better choices if I surround myself with better options, but that means I have to seek them out at the grocery store. Grocery store + two little kids = not a lot of time to look for new products.
I heard about the company Urthbox that sends monthly snack foods to your door that are healthy and I thought, “Now that is what I need!” There were a few reasons that this subscription caught my eye including the fact that you can cancel at anytime. The company focuses on sending snack products that are Non-GMO, Organic and All-Natural as well as providing FULL size samples and fun little extras like supplements or skin care products. There are also many different box size options so if you just want four or five new snack products a month, you can get the mini subscription for just nine dollars. There are also lots of subscription packages starting at just one month and go up to purchasing an entire year of Urthboxes for a discounted rate. In fact, Urthbox states on their website that their large box with up to 30 monthly products will have a value of 100 dollars retail. That’s double what you pay! Want something other than the Classic Urthbox like Gluten-Free, Diet or Vegan? No problem! Just choose your option while making your selection.
There is something really exciting about getting a monthly snack box without knowing what you will get, but still knowing they are healthy snacking choices. But – Would my Urthbox actually make a difference in the way I am eating? I was about to find out with their March Urthbox, so let’s see what happens as I documented how it went…..
March Urthbox Contents
Popcorn, granola, healthy candy bars, maple water (yup!), nuts, gummies and a WHOLE LOT more!
I made a mental note of everything I received and put it in my ‘snack’ drawer in our kitchen cabinet. I was ready. I decided to track all of my ‘I HAVE to have a snack RIGHT NOW’ moments I would experience, usually at night after the girls were in bed.
Day 1: I wanted something sweet after dinner. I knew I had a healthy candy bar. One bite later, it satisfied me although I would have rather had a Reece’s Cup! Ha. Luckily, it did the trick and no more snacking.
Day 5: I was really wanting chips, but I knew I had some salty popcorn from the Urthbox snacks. Yes! They were so good. OK, I may have eaten the salted snap peas, too. Who is counting?!
Day 7: Horseradish Chips GONE! yum yum. Fav snack so far.
Day 9: MUST HAVE CHOCOLATE. Chocolate espresso beans are great but I still want more. The vegan chocolate chip cookie tastes…ok. Cravings pass and I stop snacking. Yeah!
Day 20: I really like the curry clusters when I wanted something at night. Yummy!
Strangely, I find myself not snacking as much and when I do, the portions in the Urthbox are perfect. I usually have a wicked sweet tooth; however, the Urthbox contents are very low on chocolate and sugar and I make due. Maybe I really don’t need so much chocolate after all. It has been a nice month of much less snacking and although I still get cravings, it is much easier to curb them knowing I am not buying anything else. The salty snacks are definitely my favorite (love the salted snap peas and horseradish chips) and I still have several items from the box I just haven’t tapped into yet – and maple water was definitely not my thing. Considering I was snacking much more last month and overall enjoyed what I ate, this has been a nice and healthy improvement! Two thumbs up!
