ZIGGY MARLEY’S TUFF GONG WORLDWIDE PRESENTS CELEBRATING BOB MARLEY
Children’s Voices Sing 70th Birthday Tribute Out April 28, 2015!
BOB MARLEY IS A LEGEND. I don’t know how anyone could dispute that. And somewhere in all the baby literature Bob and I were consuming before the birth of our first child, Brooke, was a tidbit that the beats in reggae music were not only great for babies to hear and enjoy, it is supposed to help a baby’s early development. Who knew? And while the source and any sort of scientific evidence to back it up has been lost over the years to us, we were already huge Bob Marley fans, so we immediately started to play all things Bob Marley and the Wailers around the clock for Brooke to hear immediately – yes, Brooke started to hear Bob Marley in utero. We still love to steadily jam to Marley’s lovely music with both our kids frequently.
Marley’s music gives me goose bumps and I’m furiously writing this review as I’m listening to 1World Chorus, so forgive me for any errors as I speed through this inspiration. His lyrics, his vocals, his PASSION is poured into his songs and you almost feel like you CAN understand his point of view without having lived it. I still don’t know how he did and does that (because, really, his music will always live on, right?) so well. I wouldn’t dare try to ever put another musician in the same category as him! I can just start naming off his songs like “No Woman No Cry,” “Buffalo Soldier,” “Get Up Stand Up,” “Stir it Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Redemption Song,” and “Jamming,” that interweaves both love and political meaning with such a conviction that makes you want to listen and do something. It’s like a life story woven beautifully into the artistic language of music where everyone can join in. Marley sang for freedom and redemption and that is why I think his songs are so ageless.
2015 would have marked Marley’s 70th birthday and it has been an extraordinary tribute year for fans that includes the upcoming Celebrating Bob Marley that is sung all by children. Yes, this album is perfect for families and you have to share it. Bob Marley loved to teach and share music with children and it is fitting that his son, Ziggy and his record label, Tuff Gong Worldwide, partnered with the 1World Chorus to reimagine some of Marley’s amazing and timeless songs.
Who is 1World Chorus?
Aaron Nigel Smith’s (from PBS KIDS Emmy Award-winning show Between the Lions) 1World Chorus is a collaboration of children ages seven to eighteen years of age from Kenya, Colombia, the United States and Jamaica. This message is to “Unite & Empower Kids Through Music”. How can you not love that? The entire ten-track collection was performed entirely by this group that includes Judah Marley, 10 year old granddaughter of the late reggae icon who does a guest vocal appearance on “Bend Down Low!” Yes, as a tribute album to the essence of Bob Marley’s music, it is awesome. “One Love” is just beautiful; and, if I had to pick, my favorite on the album. If you only get one album for your family this year, this should be it.
