If you are from Austin, you must be familiar with all the hiking trails in the area. Our favorite family excursions involve hiking along the green belt. It is perfect for our almost kindergartener and our newly established pre-schooler who thinks she is as big and capable as her older sister. Le sigh. More often that not, a quarter of a mile into our hike (and when I say hike, I certainly do not mean the hills in West Virginia where I grew up – it is more of a gradual SLOPE), Brie is begging to be picked up with her word of choice, “Done! Momma! Done!” while flailing her arms in my direction. We commence to carrying her to our picnic destination usually involving a little pond with ducks with an outdoor family bathroom.
Despite all the fun we have coming together as a family to enjoy what the outdoors has to offer, our packs aren’t exactly the best sort of ergonomic design for a middle-aged parent who lugs around all ‘necessary gear’ with a toddler in tow (and sometimes a preschooler who may decide she wants to regress and be like her baby sister – hey, it happens!) Our clunky older backpacks weren’t cutting it so I KNEW someone had to have invented some lightweight backpack with plenty of pouches for families on the go. Zippers, straps, hidden compartments, lightweight and PET ripstop fabric have become synonymous with good quality material for our outdoor packs for my family and I was lucky to run across a company I have heard a ton about but have never tried out – the Chicobag.

So far so good. The DayPack15 rePETe (the one we love) is compact with lots of pouches and made to be rip-resistant. Water bottle pouches are made with stretch material to keep bottles in place and adjustable shoulder straps and zippers to give amble room while on the go. This was seriously the first time we all hiked together without looking for over ten minutes to find exactly what we needed in our messy older packs! Each pocket served its purpose with no wasted material. Plus, the lightweight bag folds up to almost nothing for easy storage and hangs on a hook in our front door hallway. Why did I now know about this sooner? Nevertheless, ChicoBag is now in our lives and one we plan to use it every weekend during our family hikes now that our weather is HOT. BRAVO!, as Ms. Brooke would say!
