Stylish and modern unisex children’s apparel inspired by contemporary design and typography, street fashion and Japanese kawaii style
I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. While Bob loves to style our girls in ruffles and pink, my go-to clothes for them are more funky and fun. It is hard to resist clothes that I think stand out yet are comfortable and can be worn again and again. That was why when I saw the clothing line Whistle and Flute (the term comes from the British rhyming slang for suit of clothing) that is designed by a husband and wife team who creates unisex clothing for kids that they would want to wear, I knew I found a line I loved.
Ryan and Miranda McCullagh began working together as The Paper Cranes, an award-winning indie-pop band from British Columbia, before starting their Whistle and Flute clothing line after the birth of their first son. As with most new parents, you start to become keenly aware of what your child is wearing but conveniently, Ryan is a graphic designer and Miranda is a designer and marketing expert so it was a nice transition for them to concentrate their artistic abilities into apparel for kids. I happen to dig their Japanese kawaii (or ‘cute’) style prints and their apple baseball raglan tee – my favorite design of theirs for baby Brie- is awesome for either little boys or girls.
