You have heard the term, ‘When Pigs Fly’, but if you live in Cincinnati, the saying takes on a WHOLE new meaning. When I first moved to Cincinnati in the early 2000’s, I was a little taken aback by all the fiberglass pig statutes (courtesy of ArtWorks, a community art employment program) that were all over downtown. What in the world? It turns out I got an earful of how Cincinnati has had a nickname since the 19th century when it was a thriving meat-packing industry called ‘Porkopolis’. Yeah, pretty funny. To add to all of this, the Flying Pig Marathon that happens each year in Cincinnati is a huge event! The term is so synonymous with Cincinnati that when Bob and I were in Sacramento, CA and happened upon a restaurant called the Flying Pig BBQ (sadly now closed) we were sure it had something to do with our adopted city and we were right. After a wonderful discussion with the owner about the Cincinnati Reds, he lovingly had called his place after his hometown. Although Bob and I have been Austinites since 2008, we still consider Cincinnati a part of home and flying pigs are, of course, a wonderful symbol of our time there. So, of course while trying to figure out which adorable shirt I wanted the most for baby Brie from the awesome shop Oh Little Rabbit, it was quickly decided once I saw the Flying Pig, my search was over!

Oh Little Rabbit is a husband and wife team of Jason and Cara Hibbs who began making their eco-friendly tees in their one bedroom apartment. They took a leap of faith, quit their jobs and now are running Oh Little Rabbit full time! Wow! Luckily, their space and company have grown since then! They make sure to use organic and recycled materials whenever possible and only use nontoxic water based inks in their designs which is fantastic. Their designs are beautiful and handmade to order which just shows you that this is a labor of love. We love the Flying Pig tee on Brie because it is so comfortable for her and it gives so much meaning to us when we see it. Plus, they don’t just design tees, they have a variety of wonderful items from aprons to lunch sacks and their designs are all so unique (love the VW bus!) So, the next time someone says, ‘until pigs fly’, say they already do. Just ask Jason and Cara! I think all of Cincinnati would agree. Love.
