There is nothing in the world that I love more than reading to my girls. I honestly don’t know who enjoys it more. Both my girls insist on reading books multiple times and, at one point, Brie was very attached to a coloring book that had lots of pictures and little words that I had to start making up stories just so it would make her happy. Ha! But when I saw the children’s book ‘The Book with No Pictures’, I thought, “That can’t be! What child would like this?” So, intrigued, I decided to test it out on my pair and it was a surprising hit for both of them. So now, I am sitting and writing a review for a book that I thought would never reach my blog and I am very delighted to tell you more.
The Book with No Pictures is children’s book by B.J. Novak. Does that name sound familiar? If you watched the American version of The Office, you probably recognize his names as, among other things, a writer and actor (who could forget Ryan?) on the show! Of course, he also holds a degree from Harvard for English literature, so perhaps it isn’t too surprising that he has added author to his amazing resume. And this book WILL be requested over and over again – even without pictures! Why? If your child is like mine, they delight in having their parents look SILLY. As the reader, I was expected to say EVERY SINGLE THING that is written in the book. I will try not to give it away, but lots of silliness ensues whether it is absurd sentences or jibberish. It doesn’t matter, it makes Brooke giggle which gets her little sister going. This was such a surprising hit and I did not expect such comedy acknowledgment from my very funny oldest daughter. I think I must have underestimated her humor level which was a refreshing Oops on my part. If you want an interactive and fun book for kids preschool to around age eight, you have to check this out. Try not to read TOO close to bedtime or you might have a mutiny on your hands!
