Instead of hibernating as he should, a little bear cub goes out in search of spring—and he thinks he’s found it!
If there is one thing I love about living in Austin, it is the short winters. Around this time of year, the weather goes from cold to warm/hot EVEN and it is fabulous. I have never been one who liked snow after I had to start driving in it and each year the distain grows. “Why do we need the cold?” my bones bellyache. Yeah, yeah, the seasons and cycles of life…..my Scrooge-like attitude to all things cold and dark may logically know the reason, but my body wants to hibernate until it is over. WHICH, brings me to a fabulous new HaperCollins children’s book called ‘Finding Spring’!
How do you EXPLAIN spring to a young cub who has never experienced it? The little cub is getting ready to hibernate for the winter and his momma bear explains that when he wakes, it will be a beautiful spring. But – what does that mean? He is impatient and doesn’t want to wait! So, while he should be snoozing, the cub goes in search of spring and finds what he thinks it is before settling down to a LONG nap (hint: it isn’t ‘spring’ and easily melts!) Is he in for a surprise when he wakes!
Finding Spring is a sweet book about the seasons that are perfect for children. The artwork is done in shadowbox art, so it is very special and unique. We love reading it before bedtime (the hibernation theme is perfect for that!) since it is quite soothing. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for spring right now!
