Silly Cow Chocolate Truffle Hot Chocolate
Experience the rich luxury of melt-in-your-mouth truffle hot chocolate. All Natural!
I am SUCH a sucker for hot chocolate. It was a staple in my home during the winter season and I have great memories of snow ball fights and long hours in the cold, to come indoors for a yummy cup of cocoa (with marshmallows, but that’s my next post, so stay tuned!) And I KNOW the difference between the real and fake stuff from packages. BLEH. Hot cocoa is made with leche, milk…you know, not hot water. Hey, it’s my preference and it tastes better to us – the Bacon familia.
Now, as you may have known if you are a reader of my blog, I’m a progressive Type II diabetic (yes, I am underweight/on target most of the time – it is NOT necessary linked to weight). That means I can control it with diet and exercise yet more than likely, the older I get the less my body can produce insulin. Does that mean diabetics or progressive diabetics have to give up sugar intake? IMPOSSIBLE! Sugars in fruits can be just as damaging (yes, check it out – I couldn’t even eat bananas for a long time), but “according to an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics review of the research, replacing starch with that amount of sucrose on a daily basis won’t have a negative affect as long as you don’t increase your total calories. If you normally consume 2,000 calories per day, that’ means you can have from 50 to 175 grams of sugar per day.” So how much sugar does one cup of silly cow contain if you use the proper measurement (2 tsp.)? 14 grams, plus NO trans fats and 1 gram of protein! Cool. After all, this is a treat, but it is also in my limits in my daily intake. Score!
The best thing? Brooke and Bob love it, too! Who doesn’t like yummy cocoa, right? And each container has 24 serving sizes. Plus, this VT company sells this product locally – so check Whole Foods or Central Market in the cocoa aisle if you want to take the yumminess. After all, happy cocoa memories have stayed with me and perhaps it will with my kiddos.
