New Year’s Eve! The one time a year I get dressed up to the ‘9’s’ and have a BLAST. My mom would buy us a special bottle of what she called ‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo’, which was fake sparkling wine. I’m not sure what company made my favorite flavor, but it was called ‘Cold Duck’. Yeah. HILARIOUS.
The area we are from in Appalachia has a lot of different traditions from Irish to Scottish to German. It’s like a mess of traditions all rolled into one. We happen to fall into the sauerkraut and pork dish for GOOD LUCK. It is freakin’ delicious. At least, ON New Year’s Night. Then my dad would shoot off his ‘Pap’s’ gun (his grandfather) and then we’d all be shuffled into bed at around 12:01 AM. Ha.
We’ve started our own traditions, but the German side of Bob’s family comes out, so do the fancy clothes and OF COURSE we make the best spread of food and decorations that we can imagine (as does our wallet.) That includes……doo doo doo…Oriental Trading! So, let’s get started, my friends, I have A LOT of work to do!
