Monogrammed stockings by Hoop and Stitch
Hoop & Stitch is a family business located in Northeast Ohio providing embroidery, apparel and accessory services
You have probably guessed by my multiple posts that I’m a HUGE Christmas holiday fan. Fanatic even. And stockings are a HUGE part of that. My mom made our stockings and I’m just not that talented. Luckily, there are so many fantastic people here in the good ol’ USA and one happens to be from (GASP) Ohio named Tracy Petrekovich. Hoop and Stitch, her personal collection, is not her full time job – yet – but it could be. After hearing her story and viewing her collection, I was like, “Why don’t MORE people know about her?” So, now you can, too!
Q&A with Tracy Petrekovich
Q: You come from Michigan originally, what brought you to Buckeye (Ohio) territory?
A: I met my husband in Oklahoma while I was at training for work, he worked in Akron and I worked in Detroit. We hit it off and ended up getting married. I moved to Ohio because it was so beautiful; I love where we live. We have a lot of woods on our property and there is always something awesome to look at every season.
Q: Tell me about the name Hoop and Stitch? How did you come up with that name?
A: Hoop and stitch are the basic steps in embroidery. I am not good with cutesy names so I thought Hoop & Stitch would be a great place to start.
Q: What would you tell my reader WHY it is important to buy from other moms instead of something store bought for cheaper that may be made overseas and not fair trade? We are almost all on budgets!
A: I think it’s so important to support home based businesses. There are so many families that depend on this to support their family. Traditional work environments don’t work for every family; many have littles at home that need someone there for them. Buying from Moms is a positive thing because I think they put more effort into making sure you have a quality item. There is a lot more personal accountability. I know when I make something; I make it as if it were for me. I want to be sure the recipient loves it!
Q: What is your hope for the future of Hoop and Stitch?
A: I would hope that one day it could turn into my full time job. I am working on creating a line of garments that I would make myself.
Q: How soon do readers need to get their orders in for homemade clothes and stockings for the holidays?
A: I would say December 10th is the last comfortable day to order for Christmas delivery. I will take orders after that but they would have to upgrade to Priority shipping. The quantity and type of item kind of determines the delivery timeline. I had someone order 8 stockings last year on December 13th and they received them by the 20th. I do all embroidery and embellishing myself.
Q: You encompass ALL seasons! I love that! What do you have planned for future holidays?
A: I usually do specially designed garments for all the major holidays. For Easter, I will be doing lots of really cute personalized Easter baskets.
I was raised in a family business. My Mom owned a flower shop and I worked there from the time I was a young teenager into my twenties. I think that experience is what gave me the love of designing. There was never an excuse for less than stellar work and this is why I carry on that quality level of work (my Mom made me do it).
Now, here is some of her amazing work!
List Price: Monogrammed stockings are $18.95, personalized Christmas cubbies start at $23.95
