Explore Money! With 25 Great Projects. KNOW YOUR DOUGH!
The next time someone tells you that ___fill in the blank___ isn’t ‘worth the paper it is printed on..’ you can smartly say, “Money isn’t MADE out of paper! It’s made out of plant based materials in the United States” then watch out so you don’t get slapped!
Money is a MEDIUM of EXCHANGE issued by the government. Econ 101. You know, when I was all excited to KNOW money. I mean, really understand it. Fast forward Econometrics 400 level series senior year…what does it all even mean? Yup, that was me. Questioning everything. I studied MACROeconomics, so I focused on how countries value their current rate of exchange. Yeah. Weird. Because money now isn’t much more than…..well, NOTHING…
Some money is backed by coins, most not and adding and subtracting decimal points is sometimes just a notion of, well, what the IMF says it is based on statistics I doubt very few could even begin to understand. Maybe we aren’t supposed to? I digress…
Money used to mean something much more TANGIBLE. Did you know the word salary derives from the word SALT because that is what Romans in ancient times were paid in salt blocks. Talk about TANGIBLE. This book talks at length about the meaning of money including what it means to ‘us’ now. The projects are fun and interesting; tracing coins, viewing international currency and making your OWN money. Just don’t try to exchange it unless it’s a really great piece of art. Ha!
