I don’t brag often, but I am ‘artsy fartsy’ which seems to flow out of me even when I do not try. I am a sloppy artist who paints with a quick brush. I am a musician/singer/songwriter who can play by ear. In high school, I was one of those students who had their artwork displayed in the little glass display windows outside of art class. I couldn’t escape it. It is who I am.
I also went by ‘Miss Jeanna Don Paxton the First’ because, you know, there could potentially in a very unlikely scenario be another Jeanna Don out there. It caught on at school and this is a picture of me in one of my high school yearbooks (thanks, Scottrick for finding it for me!):

And no, I did NOT call myself a ‘creative genius’, but my class did. Whether or not I deserved that title, it is still in my yearbook for all those hundreds of students to see.
It was my mom that encouraged the absurd. She would never bat an eye when I wanted to do something….well…unique. You know, like paint my walls like an underwater mural (sorry dad – it took three coats of paint to cover it up later..), finger paint with pudding on our dining room table or have guy/girl slumber parties since most of my friends were guys. I was always thinking of ways to do something fun and different and my mom was all for that. She was quite different herself, you see. It either rubbed off or I inherited it, but I like to find ways to inspire and create. Now that I’m a mom I try and do the same thing for my daughters.
It is WORKING!
If you are like me and loathe white walls in your house (I can’t wait to buy instead of rent) then you probably fill your home with lots of wonderful pictures all over the place. I know I do! I like to search for family friendly pictures that tell a story. The Family Routine Print by Children Inspired Design spoke to me. It just clearly states; “1. Wake up 2. Be Amazing 3. Go back to bed.” Yes, pretty RAD. I don’t want for much in life, but I do want my kids to always strive to be their AMAZING selves. And you know what? It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if either of my daughters have the title ‘Creative Genius’ in their yearbook pictures, too!
All Prints are Made in the USA on Recycled Paper and Earth-Friendly Inks! Now that is GENIUS!
