My Very First I Can Read Book Series (for Young Readers)

Preparing America’s Students for Success through Common Core!

Brooke and I started at the lowest level in a brand new series (which just came out 6/24/2014) of children’s books aimed at beginning readers! You have probably heard of the ‘I Can Read’ book series, well, now think of it as a new tool for emergent readers, too!  While we really dig that the My Very First I Can Read series is now aimed at an even younger crowd.  Yes, Brooke is learning a lot and likes to try and read the books.

How Does this Series Work?

This series is a  Common Core–aligned program starring Tug the Pup and an endearing group of characters who will lead beginners through the proven steps for successful reading.The Learn to Read with Tug the Pup program features important Common Core State Standards connections, including sight word vocabulary, simple text, strong picture support, and character and plot development.The eleven short stories in box set one are Guided Reading Levels A–C, which means it’s the perfect entry point for new readers, with simple and predictable stories. Each box set also comes with reward stickers and a Parents’ Guide that provides hours of additional reading activities.

What is Common Core?

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an educational initiative in the United States that was sponsored by both the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)  and details what K-12 students should know.  So, it’s basically a way to prep kids to move from high school to college in a more seamless way.
