As kids explore the outdoors, there is so much to investigate!

Can your kid really have too many microscopes?  According to Brooke, NO!  Magnifiers have probably been one of the best investments in what I consider fun and educational toys we have made for Brooke.   We started off with those fun little hand held magnifiers for kids when she was barely walking, showing her all the little things outside in the grass.  IT STUCK!  I mean, that child loves this kind of stuff – even more than I DO!  She GOES WILD to look at little things and learn about all sorts of things she finds in nature where she wants to get a closer look.  Her love of rocks was to the point I thought she may need an intervention, but it is so fantastic to hear her name some different types and ‘look closer’ for inspection.

You know we love to get our preschooler involved in lots of science experiments to make learning fun and when you can magnify little objects times EIGHT, yeah, super cool to Brooke.  This is a working microscope, but this is designed for preschoolers, so don’t expect to write any scientific papers based on studies with it, but to a preschooler it could be worth a million dollars.  Yeah, we are working on the concept of price, too.  That’s another story…..

How it Works (gulp, in case any parents have never had the chance to use a microscope before?  So sorry… ):

1. Find a small object – preferably in nature because it is a fun gathering project – to place in the microscope sample tray
2. Look through the EXTRA large eyepiece and (what Educational Insights calls) the ‘chunky knob’ to focus the magnifier
3. Examine the details at the world around you – times EIGHT

Total score and great price, especially if you are creating a life long learning of science and exploration for your kiddo.
