Summer parties with Oriental Trading! (For Families)

Shhhhh! Well, ok, by the time I post this, it won’t matter anyway since both parties are done, so my secret will be out either way. I am doing TWO summer parties TWO weekends in a row for two different grandparents with their grandchildren (my kids, of course) parties. This is happening in early and mid-June and Austin is already burning up hot, but I am planning an indoor/outdoor party.
GASP! Note, these visits all came about just a few days ago and turned out back-to-back, so I had to throw something together. I needed help. Think, think, think! Ah ha! OK…Momma’s Bacon post time and I’m going to make these parties FABULOUS! Could I do it? I’m a little nervous!
My budget: $75.00. through Oriental Trading + anything I could pick up at some dollar stories within the next month.
I, of course, go to Oriental Trading first and started to think about exactly how to do two grandparent parties without re-using the theme too much. I decided to do a pinata at each party, cut a few products in half for each separate party and then hit the dollar store to make up the rest of things I would need. Now, these are two big parties events (even though it’s less than ten people at each.) I needed something that would cover both Brooke and Brie’s grandma’s 61st birthday (we were not with her on her 60th, so yeah..that’s why…it’s going to be called ‘It’s Bananas You are 60+1’) and the other is their grandpa is going (moving?) to Buenos Aires (so think sunny, palm tree theme). Yeah, shock on the second one which is how I ended up throwing this together last minute, so this is a big deal and we picked the perfect (I think?) theme can be done for both parties called ‘Beach Monkey’ which both Brooke and I thought was SOOOOO cool.
And – like lots of immediate families who may live far from each other – sometimes you have to celebrate lots of things all at one gathering, since the grandparents will miss both of our summer babies’ birthdays (including Brie’s first birthday) and – to be honest – we don’t know when we will see Papa again….so we decided to have a ‘mesclarse’ party, too. It’s probably not something I invented, but with Brooke’s Spanish theme party and Papa’s trip to South America it seemed appropriate to deem these parties as ‘mixing together’ several themes, too.
Decorating the garage a la ‘mesclarse’ style! Throw in some hints of two girl’s birthday parties, a daddy’s graduation and two weekends to blow two grandparent’s minds before the next time we meet.
