OK, so now that warm weather is upon us here in Austin, it means Brooke wants to be outside – constantly. She would probably sleep outside if we would let her. She is especially excited because her preschooler body is getting more towards ‘kindergartener’ and less ‘preschooler’ these days – and it is freaking me out!

While she certainly couldn’t be mistaken for a graceful swan at her age, she has developed quite amazing motor skills that I was hoping yet dreading her acquiring. She does things like get into the refrigerator herself and can actually make simple snacks. At first it was like I was living back in a college rental with sloppy roommates who never cleaned up. On top of that, Brooke tries to OPEN EVERYTHING (which frustrates her to no end since life at home is quite prison-like (I imagine?) as far as lock down with our baby) and she wants to show her independence daily even in a very physical way. She runs and pedals – FAST. She loves to giggle and pedal on her trike/bike far, far away from us – her loving, understanding and way too patient parents. *large sly smile* She can learn to ride a bike with no training wheels any time and yet I am hesitant. I can’t always protect her, so what controls can I put in place to reduce risk of any *sob sob* injury.

‘How do humans continue to survive?’, I ask myself quite frequently as a parent now…..we are so prone to ACCIDENT!

I suppose by designing safety items to keep our kiddos visible and *hopefully* safe. I realize now that there are some things Brooke will never really realize until she herself is a parent or has a good understanding of the consequences of acting without thinking. Safety first, right? We hear it all the time. Our kids hear it all the time. Sometimes we need to let the products they wear do the speaking for them.
