I was in first grade when the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster happened. I remember seeing it break apart on TV. It was crazy and very sad. We watched for the very cool Teacher in Space program where crew member and teacher Christa McAuliffe was the first teacher sent for the program. Although the disaster was upsetting, it didn’t deter my interest in space travel, the galaxy and the planets and Brooke and I find it very fun to talk about the universe together.
Safari LTD has a new Solar System Set for ages 4 and up that has small replicas of all the planets in our galaxy. Super cool! I love that Safari LTD made the planets true to miniature scale of the actual planets. How fun for learning. You can do lots of fun activities with this set, including building your own galaxy with planets orbiting the sun. This is a great way to learn about space without having to fly a rocket to get there.
