When the weather became nicer in the mid-Ohio valley when I was a child, it meant one thing; outdoor and summer games! We would play horseshoes, kick the can and croquet to just name a few. It was a blast! After thinking and looking for some great outdoor games for my preschooler we could play as a family, I came across a new game I didn’t know much about but thought Brooke would love it! It is called Mölkky.
Did you know that Mölkky is the most popular outdoor game in Nordic countries? The interesting thing is that this game hasn’t even been around that long (it began in 1996), but tossing game versions have been around for centuries.
So, how do you pronounce Mölkky? This was actually not that easy to find! I’m still not 100%, but I think it is “Mole-kuh”.
So how do you play? Basically you have two types of pins; the mölkky pins you use to knock down the positioned ‘skittles’ pins you want to try and knock down. Make sense? You earn points by knocking down the numbered pins and the first player to score 50 points win! The game does go quite fast and is easy for kids three and up to play.

This is a super fun, fast paced game for the whole family perfect for nice weather to play outside. You can also try and play this indoors, although a little less exciting (unless you like breaking things!)
