“Write It Down!”
Even as a middle child, I was used to being the youngest at experiencing events in many cases. As a summer baby, I was always the youngest in the class. I started community college at age fifteen and the students in my class averaged my parent’s age. I graduated and started my professional career at age twenty and by the time I finished up my Master’s degree in my late twenties, I had almost a full decade of career work under my belt. It did not even seem that strange when I started managing employees who were older than my parents when I turned twenty-eight. Something recently has started to happen – I’m not the youngest anymore. In fact, I recently attended a course where I thought for certain my teacher was in his forties. That’s when I learned the truth…
He was a year younger than me! GASP!
And- to be honest- it’s not only an age thing (I don’t mind getting older), it is an experience thing. I’ve started to realize that life is more predictable. I have kids who are doing things for the VERY first time and it is awesome to see that, but I am very aware that this is not my first, second or in many cases – my one hundredth time doing something with them! I am starting to understand what my parents meant when they said ‘I would understand when I got older’. Yes, I do mom and dad! However, I never do stop learning. If anything, I probably realize I know even less than I ever realized as a child.
Wisdom with age does not actually mean I still don’t seek out new experiences and have many new firsts that are worth documenting, especially as a parent. I find it is even more important to document things now because – really, who has TIME to REMEMBER? If it wasn’t for my blog, I would have probably forgotten the last three years just from sleep deprivation! That is why I think that Journal Unlimited’s My Lifelong Journal of Firsts is a fabulous investment for any parent. I think it is important to have a recorded memory of your (first) experiences so that you can share with your family! I certainly don’t think my experiences are any more important than anyone else’s, so if you don’t record your experiences, they just may be lost with time. Do we really just want a future based on Momma’s Bacon memories? No way! So, start writing!
Journal Unlimited’s My Lifelong Journal of Firsts is a 200-page journal for you to record all your ‘first’ memories. The journal was printed right here in the USA and made with soy-based ink and acid-free recycled paper. The journal has a really great durable hard cover and has really nice starter ideas and fill in pages. This journal is perfect for all ages and a great way to document all of your life’s milestones in your life – no matter if you are the youngest or oldest person in the room. Hey, maybe being the oldest person alive could be a good first!
