A Passion for World Travel and an Enduring Love for Hats

I don’t know what it is about cowboy hats and America but they seem to be synonymous to many people.  When I was going to school in Malaga, Spain it was a silly joke to my classmates (no Americans) that I was a ‘cowboy’.  It was hilarious.  At the time, I had only just visited our southern and western states besides a stint in Oregon- Portland at that!- and had never worn anything that resembled a cowboy outfit unless it was for a drama class.  I couldn’t even do a proper southern accent (and still can’t.)  I do understand why we love the idea behind the ‘wild west’ and the cowboy glamour which seems to have bled into other country’s notions of what we may resemble.  A cowboy (or cowgirl) seems to embody everything we want to be in America; lots of free range and excitement.  As a now Austinite, I think it is fair to say that our city has embraced the cowboy spirit and it is interesting to see that our daughter gravitates to things like cowboys and their accessories all on her own.  After only seeing the new Disney Jr. cartoon Sheriff Callie once, she decided it was the best show ever and had to get a pink cowgirl hat just like CallieOke (Brooke’s nickname for her!)  After hearing this since January, I decided it was time to get one.  I didn’t want just a play hat for her, I wanted a nice, durable and ‘real’ cowboy hat she could wear in the Texas heat but at a reasonable price.  Did it exist?  Oh yes!  It does!  Just like Wyatt Earp, I had to ‘go to’ San Diego to find what I wanted. (too much cowboy reference?)

The new Kids’ Cowboy Hat from San Diego Hat is a beautiful and durable design for kids.  The hat size is designed to fit kids approximately four to eight years old.  It has a really beautiful double wrapped chin strap with knotted ends with little special accessories like the wooden toggle and matching sweatband.  Unlike Brooke’s old play felt cowgirl hat that came with her costume box, her San Diego hat always looks sharp and stays in shape.

In fact, Bob took Brooke to the rodeo that was in town here in Austin and Bob said she got a ton of compliments.  I think you can see why…..

Brooke Cowgirl   Before the rodeo.  The cowgirl said the camera flash bothered her eyes…..

Does your child want another color other than ‘CallieOke’ pink?  The hat comes in many different colors including; beige, navy, red and turquoise.  Yee Haw!

P.S. Be sure to check out San Diego Hat’s collection for kids.  Their trucker hats are so adorable!
