Save the Pie Game (Age 3+)
Learning and Connecting Through Play. Celebrate National Pi Day on March 14th!
Celebrate National Pi Day on March 14th with the fun Save the Pie game from SimplyFun! We have been following SimplyFun and Tibbar (rabbit spelled backwards), their mascot, for a few years and SimplyFun is celebrating March Mathness with a special offer on one of their newest games. Save the Pie is SimplyFun’s very first cooperative board game where players all work together to complete the game.
In the Save the Pie dice game, Tibbar and four friends move on the game board in order to surprise their friend, Beary, with his favorite berry pie. Brooke has been really getting into our dice games and does this hilarious thing where she keeps shaking the die in her hand and hesitating before she throws it out of excitement! The name of this game is fast since you can’t let Beary catch you and his hourglass is always running. The wooden players have stickers on them that can show they are ‘hiding’ if Beary gets close. We were able to work together – die lag times and all – to get all of SimplyFun’s players to the pie maker to win. OK, so we didn’t always follow the hourglass (Tibbar may have bumped it.) Hee hee. This is a fun and simple game that we also used to talk about pie and pi for National Pi Day, too! Be on the lookout for more SimplyFun cooperative games in the future. I highly recommend!
Fun Facts about Pi Day:
- Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world.
- Pi (Greek letter “p”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.
- Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits.
