Seashells by the Seashore {Softcover} (Ages 1-4)
Connecting Children with Nature!
I have a love in my heart for the song “Mary Ann,” composed by calypsonian Roaring Lion (not his real name, of course) in 1945. It was the first song I attempted at ‘lead guitar’, which while I loved the song, realized I needed to stick to rhythm guitar. That didn’t dampen my spirits for the song and, in fact, I get little chills when I hear it. Considering I was a kid when I learned how to play it make it that much more special, so of course, when I heard the title of the book and that the author’s name was Maryanne, I had to check it out!
“All day, all night is Mary Ann
Down by the seaside, sifting sand.”
While this book has little to do with this beautiful song, it is a great lesson of finding learning in all places, even on *gasp* vacation. Mary Ann learns about different seashells on the beach and loves to learn about counting her ‘treasure’. Want to learn more about all the different shells Mary Ann was able to find like the periwinkle, kitten’s paw and scallop? As always, you are in luck! Dawn Publishing put some great educational material at the end including a tear out shell for shell identification. Wonderful touch!

sounds like a great book.
Literally speaking I’m living near the seashore and I love collecting seashells. No wonder I’ve named my youngest daughter CHELSEA, from the word SEA and CHELS from seashells…hehehehehe..got the connection of both scenery and sea thingy.
I love soft cover books for the wee ones!
Looks like a great book!
