Have you ever had that déjà vu feeling of being somewhere before but couldn’t quite put your finger on it? The first time I went to Spain I was still a child and yet I felt a warm and familiar feeling walking the streets of Madrid. As a person who always felt rushed to do things, life suddenly felt calmer and slow paced. People were friendly and did not laugh at my broken and terrible Spanish, they encouraged me. Dinner at 10 p.m.? Why not? Beautiful castles and tapas and siestas were lovely. Everything was beautiful and bright. I knew I was enamored and couldn’t help fall in love, yet that same feeling returned when I went back later as a student. I would easily return and if I got a chance to stay for a few months again, I would take it. There is just something very special about España to me and it is hard to define. I was lucky enough to share it with my husband and I can’t wait to share it with my kids. Maybe then they will get the beauty and love that I feel for a country I never even met for the first half of my life.
Spain (Countries Around the World) is from the Heinemann Raintree Counties of the World series that focuses entirely on the country of Spain. It is broken down into different section of history, geography, wildlife, infrastructure and government, and culture. It also has a fascinating fact section including maps and charts and even a place where you can trace the country’s flag. The pictures are bright and delightful and my daughter and I both found the book engrossing. I was just about ready to buy us all tickets to Europe but realized that I needed to pay rent. Le sigh. Spain, you do it to me every time!

I would love this book! My dad has a collection of books on different countries which I inherited, but there is not yet a book on Spain in that collection. This would work perfectly!
