While I have a love of organization, my husband is amazed at how my parents plan, document and track everything. In particular, before we went out to eat on their last visit, they knew the cost of what everyone was eating plus tax and tip. Now, I am nowhere near as obsessed with advanced planning as my parents, but I do like to prepare. It’s an inside joke between my friends that I will plan for holiday events months in advance and, yes, sometimes that is true! One thing that I do take very seriously, though, is when it has to do with my kids and safety. Having another person watch our children is a huge event for us and we are those parents that don’t pick a name out of the newspaper and bring a babysitter in without a background check. The great thing about Austin is that they have companies and centers that do all that for you. Places like Nannies from the Heart is a great place to vet and meet babysitters for kids that do complete background checks. Even then, I still like leaving additional ‘dos and do nots’ for caregivers as well as doing a meet and greet and I found a great journal that documents all that and more for babysitters. Things like food ideas, favorite activities and sleep routines are also important for me to convey. There is also a section for emergency numbers (which we also keep on the refrigerator) and daily activity notes. Overkill? Not to me. The journal is 50 pages (so it can be used for many sitter experiences) and has a 30 page tabbed section perfect for organization. It’s a great way for both you and your child’s caregiver to have a organized journal of your child’s information for peace of mind. Plus, you can use it as a keepsake for when the children are older.
