I was born during a time when our President (Carter) has just approved using covert aid to anti-Soviet forces in Afghanistan, Trade Unions in the UK Labour Party were on strike for better wages and the Iranian hostage crisis was soon to be in full swing. Sound familiar? Those who love and study history realize that we seem to make the same mistakes and same protests decade after decade while making progress and retreats in the same breath. I certainly remember the Berlin wall coming down and the end of Operation Desert Storm, I remember September 11, the housing market crash and the constant inflation on commodities. This is nothing new in the scheme of things, is it? I will always be proud of my husband for serving his country in the Army and I try and do my part as a civilian employee and there always seems to be those in line waiting to either protect or tear down our livelihood. Sure, we can talk about all the bad things in life to death, worry until we have ulcers and use the same phrase generation after generation of how things are getting worse (which seems to me a great excuse)….or we can choose to dream and act in ways that promote peace, even if it is just local.
“Everyone dreams of peace even when they don’t” is a 64 page coloring book to help children focus on the positives in life and get them in the mindset of things that make them happy before drifting off to sleep. It is a multi-functional book since your child can read it or draw/color in it when they are feeling bad. After all, there are lots of things in this world that can get you down, but there are also lots of things that can make you happy and children can learn they do control their happiness. If you are feeling blue, you can also dream of things that make you feel good. This is a great concept to generate important emotional intelligence in our children. Smiling Planet is also a fantastic company that supports local communities across the globe and works in earth-friendly ways, so even though the concept was once just a dream, it has become a reality.
