Austin’s Local Toy Lending Company

Buying toys adds up!  Buying specific kinds of toys and products for kids, such as all natural and organic (such as Waldorf toys) is even more expensive.  So how can you remedy having toys for your child to play with the ones you want versus the cost?  One Austin Company has an answer to this question by one word: lending!  Lending toys?  Really?  Yes.  For a monthly membership fee, you and your child can check out three toys a week.  For example, the Mama Bear package is $25 a month for a 12 month membership. This price includes a discount on their birthday party room rental, a free kid’s activity each Wednesday and free meet-up spaces for parents’ and home school groups.

Examples of the Waldorf Toys available for purchase at wholesale at the Toybrary:

  •  Mother Hen with Her Chicks Waldorf Puzzle
  • Russian Family with Turnip Waldorf Puzzle
  • Illustrated Waldorf Number Cards

What is the Waldorf Education Method?  Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) who began a movement called anthroposophy (see wiki here).  Steiner’s works inspired the director of the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart, Germany for the children whose parents were employed at the Waldorf Astoria Cigarette Company which opened in 1919 with the intent to develop the whole human being for a social renewal in war-torn Germany after WWI.  Waldorf education focuses on areas of practical, artistic and conceptual elements in learning with the intent of developing individualistic and morally responsible children.  Waldorf education continues to be a popular education method, particularly in early education, around the world.

What are Waldorf Toys?  Waldorf toys are simple and open-ended to allow children to engage in their imaginations.  They are associated with all natural cloth or wooden toys.

  1. I wish I had known about this when my kiddo was younger! The potential for not having clutter / toys accumulate over time is tremendous. Just like library books, we had out turn, now they need to go back! Sending a link to my cousin who has a young child…
