Frances England’s Blink of an Eye CD (All Ages)

A southern-indie folk song-writer (now a San Francisco transplant) who got into making CDs for her son’s preschool fundraiser is how I would sum up Frances England. She did not seek out stardom, but people sought out her when her music was plastered online (ahhh, those interwebs). Amazingly, her star power has led her to working with some of the best musicians (children’s or otherwise) out there but she has stayed true to her folk and indie sound that is geared toward families. The mom of two sons credits her children for her material on her first two albums, “Fascinating Creatures” and “Family Tree”. Her latest endeavor which just came out in August is called Blink of an Eye and features so many guest musicians I will just have to list them off; Elizabeth Mitchell, Molly Ledford (Lunch Money), Morgan Taylor (Gustafer Yellow) and Chris Ballew (Caspar Babypants). Wow! As the title might suggest to any parent, it’s about family life and nostalgia mixed with acoustic-pop. Our lives seem to go much faster (at least to me) when we had kids. My older daughter is now a preschooler going on thirteen and my baby girl is growing up before our eyes. It is hard to capture those feelings in the moment but Frances has done an excellent job making this album encompass our lives together. The songs are catchy, light and airy and the vocals are heart-warming. The title track is absolutely amazing and sets the tone for the entire album. This is not a kid’s album, this is a Family album and you will be completely entertained from the first song to the last beautiful lullaby sung as a duet by Frances and the lovely Elizabeth Mitchell. Pure heaven.
