We love to read and write in our family. Blogging was not something I planned much to start doing, but it has been such a fun hobby that has honestly helped me out during some difficult periods and before that I used song-writing as a source of comfort. Both my husband and I are reading freaks and before kids I could devour a large book in a weekend. My husband loves science fiction and cookbooks (he is quite a chef) while I focus on history and biographies. We are now both proficient in children’s literature! Ha. We know more about children’s authors than most and it’s because we are so invested at having our kids love reading, it is not unusual for us to spend an afternoon reading and Brooke can’t sleep without at least two books read to her, sometimes more. To me, reading and writing have always gone hand in hand so any activities I can do with her that encourages that and makes it fun is something we enjoy. Thankfully, my daughter craves learning and is easily swayed into working together on fun activities and Carson Dellosa has some pretty impressive new workbooks and flashcards in their latest catalog!
Early Writing Practice Workbook
It has been so much fun to watch Brooke realize she is right handed and get stronger in her scribbles to actually drawing pictures to now trying letters! Workbooks like the Early Writing Practice encourages her on the nine developmental strokes that help teach writing. Tracing is a huge piece in learning things like straight, slanted, circular and curved lines. This isn’t work, this is fun play that happens to increase pencil control and eye coordination. This is learning through creativity. The workbook is an impressive 64 pages and has a lot of colorful activities. We love it!
Flash cards have always been a big hit in our house. My daughter, Brooke, is fantastic at learning through repetition and the 54 cards in this set are perfect for phonics, letter recognition and reading readiness skills. I really love that the cards include learning suggestions for parents on how to build a child’s confidence and proficiency. We like to make learning fun and not a chore and these Spectrum cards do a wonderful job of engaging kids with colorful illustrations and even games you can play to help with learning.
