I am really safety conscience when it comes to pedestrian safety, especially at night, and so is my husband. I will give you two great examples of why we feel that caution. When I was in high school my older brother drove me to school before I got my license. He was one of those sleep to the last minute and barely be awake and gun it types that always had me fear for my life. Luckily, we lived so close to school I just tried not to think about it. One dark morning as he revved his engine, I saw a jogger out of the corner of my eye as he was pulling up to turn on to the main road. The jogger thought he was letting him go, but my brother didn’t even see him! Long story short, no one got hurt, but the jogger certainly could have! My husband’s story didn’t turn out as great. He was in his early twenties and crossing the crosswalk (at the appropriate time) when an elderly lady ran over his Achilles tendon. Ouch! Yes, many stiches and months on crutches, he still has throbbing pain in his heel a few times a month.
Why all the safety talks now? Well, we are entering Halloween season and we like to make sure we are all decked out in safety lights so no car can mistake us as part of the road!
