Beetle Metamorphosis Biological Science Kit (Age 6+)

Interestingly enough, it was Brooke’s baby book by Eric Carle about the ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ that got her interested in the metamorphosis of insects. I’ve found several great science kit models to explain how different animals like amphibians grow, such as tadpoles into frogs. She finds these changes quite fascinating. I have to say that out of all the kits we have checked out, I have been the most impressed with the TedCo Toys products because of their easy-to-use rotational disc box containers that are great for viewing and for keeping on the shelf when not in use. It is definitely more bang for your buck! We decided on the beetle set since there is no shortage of them in our area and they have five different distinct growth stages until maturity. The models are completely realistic and are fascinating to kids to watch a (toy) beetle grow. TedCo has eight complete titles of the metamorphosis kit and I highly recommend all of them. I love being able to show Brooke that science is all around us and it is so much more fun to be part of it than reading it all in a textbook. It would make a great gift for an elementary science teacher, too!
