Crystal Children & Teacher Supply is always here to inform our customer base with information concerning every test their child or student may take!
If you have never heard of reading strips you are in for a real treat as a parent of any young reader who may be having some trouble. Some reluctant readers may just have issues with skipping words lines, losing concentration or transposing letters. Students can become frustrated and give up on reading too early. As parents, we want to encourage reading and one way to do that is through a product called reading strips. A reading strip is a straight seven inch long colorful but see-through highlighting strip with a height of 1.25” that helps the student see each line they need to read. The lines above and below are blocked off so the reader is not distracted. As the student reads, they slide down this tool to stay concentrated. There are several colors highlighting options available that is purely for preference. Give your child the gift of reading and those who are struggling can find this to be a great tool to give back on track on focusing on reading the words in the correct order. Brilliant.

I’ve never tried this exact product, but the use of colored overlays (filters) can be very beneficial. I have used similar items for over 20 years. Aside from keeping the reading focused onto a particular area of the page, it filters out the glaring white of the page. That glare can distract the brain which results in lack of reading comprehension and other dyslexic-like distractions. Young readers often do not understand they are seeing more on a piece of paper than their other classmates and therefore cannot articulate their problem. And as for the color you choose, it’s not just about the child’s favorite color. You may need to experiment with your reader to see which color produces the best results. You might even need to try using a couple of the filters stacked. Only through trying the different filters might the reader realize the visual distractions they’ve been having because suddenly, they’re gone. Excellent info, Mary. Thank you for sharing.
I love reading books, and I can even me see where this can come in handy. But I’d getting a few of these even just for using as bookmarks, they look so creative!
