I remember the BP oil spill of 2010 too well.  I was working at an agency that was part of the clean-up crew and it was a mad house.  Our mission was to protect the species along the Gulf and, at the time, it was a daunting task as oil continued to stream into the water.  Although at the time I could not be part of the clean-up crew on the scene, my supervisory Administrative Officer status meant my team went and I was left to hold the office together – by myself!  In a world of computers, we lived on the paper trail of the disaster area.  Timesheets were faxed in and supply requests sometimes came through the phone.  Accidents and rental car reconciliations were out of control.  It was not a fun time.  However, helping animals who were covered in oil made it worthwhile and we all wanted the Gulf Coast to recover quickly.  Even after our clean-up was considered successful, it was the outpouring of additional restoration and confidence in tourism that is still a continued project.  In fact, CDs like “GulfAlive” by the Banana Plant contribute to celebrating the unique Gulf Coast with proceeds still going toward this restoration.  It is a worthy cause and also great music for children.  The cool thing is, The Banana Plant is offering a second CD called “Treasure Swamp” on top of the Grammy-Nominated “Gulf Alive” for a great price.  Come to support the Gulf and stay for the talented music!

The Banana Planet two-set CD includes the 2012 Grammy nominated “GulfAlive” and the newly released musical CD called “Treasure Swamp – A Pop Opera”.  Gwynn Torres and her husband are the songwriters, musicians and producers behind both albums that celebrate animals defending their homeland.  The “GulfAlive” CD celebrates the critters of the Gulf and is accompanied by a special coloring book of the animals by the late New Orleans artist, Gus D. Levy.  “Treasure Swamp” includes 22 songs of swamp animals that are standing up to the pirate trying to take over their homeland.  Both albums are from the animal’s perspective and have been nominated for Creative Child Magazine’s Preferred Choice Award.  Wow!  This is fun and family oriented music with a nice clear message any family would enjoy.
