Navigate Six Birds Back to their Natural Habitats, Avoiding Hazards and Celebrating America’s Natural Resources

I learned a lot about the endangered species of Texas when I worked as an administrative team supervisor for the Fish and Wildlife Service.  I spent one Earth Day several years ago birding and spotting three golden-cheeked warblers, one of the most at-risk species in North America.  These birds breed exclusively on or near the Edwards Plateau of central Texas which was really amazing to me.  While I thought I understood the concept of ‘extinct’, it did not really fully click until I got to see these beautiful birds with a very distinct call in person.  Protecting species like the golden-cheeked warbler from vanishing from our planet just seems like the right thing to do and I this is a great way to introduce this concept to our kids in a fun way.

Save The Birds board game was amazingly created by a 13-year old girl, Olivia Bouler, who has an already impressive background of charity and change.  She has not only raised 200,000 dollars to date to “Save the Birds” she is a White House Champion of Change and a kids blogger with the Huffington Post.  Wow!  The game board is printed on canvas and can be rolled up to fit into a tube or backpack. All of the components of this game are made of recycled materials. This game is suitable for ages 5 years and up and includes a mini-booklet with fun facts about birds, and inspiring messages by Olivia.  The premise of this beautifully illustrated game is quite simple; you must help navigate six birds back to their natural habitats and avoid any hazards.  The game includes a booklet with great facts about birds with some wonderful background information as well as cards, die and six player game pieces.  The board itself is printed on canvass to be rolled up into an included reusable cardboard tube.  Impressive!

Proceeds to Charity!  A portion of proceeds from Olivia’s Collection will benefit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

  1. We had a game slightly like this when I was kid it was made by the RSPCA and you would have to find and save the birds I used to love it – you’ve made me wonder if we still have it somewhere. x

  2. Looks like a great game for kids. Might have to check it out. Thanks for the post. I found your site from Karamabloggers my name on there is Alicia Justice.

  3. What a great game! Not only does it look fun to play, but educational too. Plus, I love that some of the proceeds go to saving the birds. I cannot believe a child created this! That is wonderful and amazing!
