Product Review: World Sing-Along CD by Putumayo Kids (All Ages)

A Collection of Songs by Artists from Around the World. Superstorm Sandy delayed the release date to Nov 13, 2012.

The world music-centric Putumayo Label had initially planned their next children’s CD release, World Sing-Along, that showcases their fun family-friendly songs from around the world on October 30th. The collection of songs and artists from around the world include Trinidadian Asheba, Cuban-American musician Jose Conde, Roland Zoss from Switzerland and Dan Zanes with African star Angelique Kidjo and the voices of the Pihcintu Multicultural Children’s Choir. The Children’s Choir features refugee girls (mostly from war-torn regions) and they perform an original song entitled“Around the World” that is very moving. I also have a special place in my heart for their rendition of ‘Waltzing Matilda’, a personal favorite song of mine (someday I will have to talk about my complete obsession with Australia…in fact, our cat, Mr. Meowmer, does have a first name and it is Sydney…..yes….THAT Sydney) and Brooke and I have already developed a special dance for it. What is really awesome is that a contribution of $5,000 from sales of the World Sing-Along CD will be donated to the non-profit Five and Alive. Five and Alive is through the Population Services International campaign that has a goal to ensure that every child, regardless of where they are born, reaches the age of five. Love.

2013 Calendars for a Good Cause! Now available is Putumayo’s first photography calendar, Children of the World. The calendar features images of children from Africa, Asia and Latin America by famed photographer, Jon Kaplan. Ten percent of the profits of the sale of the calendar will go towards Seva, a non-profit organization that serves vulnerable populations with sustainable health programs.

A New Show on SiriusXM Kids! “The World Playground with Putumayo” just debuted on SiriusXM Kids on Sunday, September 16. It airs a full hour of Putumayo Kids on Sundays at 10 am EST.

Affect of Sandy: Putumayo’s latest release was delayed by Sandy, as they’re based in lower Manhattan and their warehouse is in NY. Some CD shipments may still be slightly delayed, but totally worth it.
