Product Review: Gemstone Collection Box (Age 3+)

I had a standing list of things I wanted as a child and one item that always made the list was a rock tumbler. I never got one, but my husband actually had one (and he had to tell me all about it!) and said he loved it. For those not in the know, a rock tumbler is a device that ‘tumbles’ a rock around until it is considered polished. I could find such beautiful rocks in the area I grew up that just needed a little TLC to remove a lot of the minerals to really make them shine. If you have a child that is a little rock obsessed and likes to collect them and bring them inside like mine (she is very specific on the size and color of rocks she collects even now which I think is just awesome), this is definitely an item to consider. We are starting out small since Brooke is still young and went with a fun collection box of different gemstones and definitely plan to work our way up if she is still interested in gathering and cleaning rocks and crystals as she gets older.
The Gemstone Collection Box by GeoCentral (an Ohio based company) is a great way to incorporate and showcase science into a child’s life at an early age in a very inspiring way. The best thing about this kit for us is that it does all the work for you which is exactly what we want right now. The 25 rocks included (they are about ½ inch wide for each rock) are beautifully polished and are a great start for a child to learn the different gemstones that exist. This is such a great price for this product and is perfect for a beginner gemstone collector. I love the assortment of gemstones included and think a collection box is a beautiful idea for children. Who knows, maybe your child’s interest will blossom into a lifelong life of geology and Earth Science which definitely, well, rocks.
