Product Review: How Does Sleep Come? {Hardcover} (Age 4+)
“Sleep comes quietly. Like a snowfall that blankets a meadow on a dark starry night, and lays down a soft white canvas for rabbits to leave footprints.”
For someone who had childhood insomnia, sleep never came quietly. It wasn’t like a snowy night with sweet poems and counting sheep. It was a full blown war with my eyelids and racing thoughts. I started learning about some effective rituals I still like to maintain today for my own sleep time and I find our daughter’s nighttime routine relaxing, even for me. It drives my husband a little crazy when I play my daughter’s and my favorite Elizabeth Mitchell CD on several rotations (Time to change to a new CD at night, right? Nope!) while we get ready for bed, but it relaxes me and it seems to relax her. I want my daughter to have a clear and empty heart and mind when she drifts off to sleep time and How Does Sleep Come? is a wonderful sleepy time story for kids!
How Does Sleep Come? is a question little Jacob wants to know from his Mama. Jacob wants a nighttime story and he is curious of how and why he has to fall asleep and where does sleep ‘take him’. His Mama goes into many little sweet rhymes and metaphors, while not exactly scientifically accurate, is a very sweet read for young children. The soothing words and beautiful nighttime pictures create a calming effort for all those fortunate to read it to your children.
Jacob closed his eyes.
And the snow fell.
And the fog rolled in.
And the clouds drifted.
And the cat purred.
And quietly, silently, softly, peacefully, gently, Jacob fell asleep.
