Product Review: Layered Wax Drawing Kit by Eye Can Art (Age 6+)
Quality Art Kits to Spark Creative Play
So what is a layered wax drawing kit? Would you punch me in my arm if I said it was a layered picture with melted beeswax? This award winning kit may seem like a new idea, but the technique of using this type of process for drawing started as an Ancient Greek wax (called encaustic) technique. Encaustic was used many centuries ago by melting colored beeswax that would make nice layered looking drawings that appeared glossy. This is an updated wax kit version where your child draws a picture (or collage) with the oil pastels inside a wooden frame. After the picture is complete, your child can then overlay the picture with the beeswax that is then heated in the oven. Once the wax is dried, your child can create another dimension by drawing on top of the cooled wax creating a very unique and lovely layered look that quite possibly could be considered museum quality! I actually did this project (really oversaw) with Brooke on a Saturday and the end products were very impressive.
