Product Review: Root Vue Farm Set (Age 4+)

I do have a dream of moving to a farm if my family ever became independently wealthy to support that life style change. I’m not so interested in raising animals, I am more interested in stretching out on a lot of land (mostly forest, if possible) and having my own garden. I always grew up with a family garden and it has been a difficult adjustment for me to live in rentals since leaving home. We had corn, tomatoes, zucchini and even had grapes (Ohio grapes have a very unique sweet taste to them that I crave). When I was little, even Brooke’s age, we would help hoe the ground and help with weeds. We even planted Marigold plants around it to deter animals. I remember my mom would eat raw corn and onions (ewww!) although I could not bring myself to do it, at least after the first time. There are many ways for ‘city’ kids to be exposed to gardening, like special community gardens, but the Root Vue Farm Set has something very special about it and that is you can actually ‘view the roots’ of your crops to watch the roots develop underground. Very cool.
The Root Vue Farm Set kit is an Dr. Toy and Oppenheim Gold winning product that comes with a built in water-basin unit with a drainage reservoir complete with a durable acrylic viewing window to view your plants roots. The kit also includes a light shield to help plants grow indoors as well as eight grow mix wafers, three seed packets (carrots, radishes and onions) with identification labels, water wicks (for the watering system) and a nice 16-page booklet. The booklet comes with a complete set of instructions and some interesting experiments. This is an interesting set whether or not you have a farm since you get the distinctive view of your plants growing up while your roots grow down.
