Product Review: My First Bird Book and Bird Feeder [Paperback]
Publishing Books, Calendars, and Big Ideas for Over 40 Years
My brother and his friend Scott were birdwatchers when they were eight years old. I was the tag-along little sister who was interested in all things that the boys did so I began to learn the different types and calls of birds just by listening and watching with them. Bird watching is relaxing and exciting and you have to have a lot of patience which is not something I normally demonstrate. However, I was good at bird watching and enjoyed it very much. We saw and could identify tons of birds in our area: cardinals, ruffed grouses, the northern bobwhite (one of my favorites since their calls sound like they are saying ‘bobwhite’), the mourning dove and the whip-poor-will were our most common sightings. I always loved seeing a black-capped chickadee because my great aunt, Flossie, called me ‘her little chickadee’ since I was a very young child and never stopped even in my tweens when she sadly passed.
Workman Publishing has come out with an exciting new book for novice bird watchers which – surprise surprise – also includes a bird feeder! This book is a fun introduction for kids and is a wonderful guide of 34 backyard birds with lots of interesting facts on each one. Kids will learn about each bird’s diet, behavior, range, nests, habitat, and calls. The illustrations are very true-to-life and will help young bird watchers become expert spotters in no time. As a bonus, the book also contains a recipe of bird food and kids can learn how to create a bird journal. Pretty amazing first bird book!
