Not a lot of children go from learning the ABCs straight into wanting to learn about Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphs, but it’s an awesome thing that someone like author Peter Der Manuelian did! Peter even went on to get a PhD in Egyptology (yeah, I had no idea either!), so be sure to encourage your kids in areas they love because you just never know. One day they might be a best-selling author, working at the pyramids of Giza site and on the curatorial staff at the Museum of Fine Arts on something you thought was chicken scratches..oh wait, no, I mean hieroglyphs, of course. Yeah!
Hieroglyphs from A to Z is an amazing book that gives you a look into the hieroglyphic code as well as extremely interesting facts about Ancient Egypt. It is also a fantastic rhyming ABC book for even young children if you don’t want to get into all the additional facts and breakdown of the Egyptians spoken language into writing. The facts are so fun for me because I have to admit I know very little about ancient Egypt than the small passages in my history books and Indiana Jones movies. Ha! ‘The scarab beetle was worn as a powerful lucky charm’ is one example of the multitude of information your child will get in this book. Not only does this hardcover book contain 48-full color pages and gold endpaper, it also has punch out stencils of hieroglyphs at the end of the book. I am not surprised that this book (originally published in 1991) is back in print as a popular best-seller.
